Of all of the CLE sessions at ABA TECHSHOW 2014, I am really looking forward to “Nixon’s Watergate Abuses: The Hackings That Forever Changed Legal Ethics” by former Nixon White House counsel John Dean. Dean has said that, “Watergate was really a technology crime solved by technology that led to the change in the law for all lawyers.”
The reason I am so looking forward to this session, is that when I was a junior in high school, I worked in a parking garage taking fares. I was stuck in a booth for 8 hours a day with nothing to do but watch TV (we only had 4 channels then) or read books. The only programming on the big three networks each day, – for weeks and weeks that summer, were the U.S. Senate Watergate hearings. I watched them every single day, and became a “Watergate junkie.” Watching those hearings may have been the reason that I became a lawyer.
